what to wear: weekend slummin’
This weekend you’re going to hit some antique and second-hand shops and perhaps enjoy a friendly conversation at your favorite french bistro over some beer and pomme frites. You want to be relaxed, but hip. Here’s the latest trends thrown together for an effortless look.
- Rag & Bone Elongated Blazer
- in a beautiful cherry red. This helps elongate your waist if you tend to be short-waisted. The cut of the jacket is slim and creates a long and lean line.
- Long-sleeve supersoft button tee
in a neutral gray
- J Brand Boyfriend Jean
- With an inseam that hits at the ankle (28″), this relaxed jean looks great rolled up a bit paired with either a casual converse slip-on, ankle boot (for now) or platform sandal
(for warmer weather.)
Carry a fun quilted quilted tote and polish your look with a great long necklace.

I love the blazer, but it is out of my price range. Do you have an alternative? I am also not sure, if an elongated blazer works for a rectangle.
Thank you.
WOW, wonderful look. And like Nicole I also think the jacket looks amazing.
I tried running errands in a pair of 2″ high heel boots. Within 2 hours the balls of my feet were on fire! I’ve worn higher heels, with out so much trouble, could it be the shoe? I often wonder how to wear high heels (like the ones shown) in a casual outfit & run errands!
The slim longer jacket will work on any silhouette but watch your proportions. If you have a long waist, you could end up making your top half look even longer. Not a good look. You will start seeing this style at H&M soon so don’t worry — you’ll be able to do it on any budget.
As for shoes, I’ve worn flats and had the balls of my feet on fire and they were Ferragamos so sometimes expensive doesn’t equal comfort. Be super picky when you try on shoes at the store — if they are super comfy when you put them on, that is certainly a good sign but also consider the cushion and support under the balls of your feet and heels — that’s where it can really hurt after a few hours.
Just a general question to boyfriend jeans. Are they appropriate for 40 + women and what shape can actually wear it?
