what to wear: to work – early fall

With Fall around the corner, it’s time to start thinking about reviewing your work wardrobe.  Here is something that works for those warm days as well as those occasional cool days as we transition to fall.

Maggy London brown heather seamed knit dress. For under $100, and with the hip high collar, this is one dress I myself can’t wait to add to the wardrobe.  The color is perfect for light-haired lovelies and those with dominantly cool coloring.  It also works really well for most body types (especially rectangles!) and comes in a great range of sizes.

For those crisp Fall days, add this cute open shawl-collar cardigan.  It’s a soft wool/cashmere blend and also comes in other colors at J.Crew for $118.00.

For accessories, this stylish Marc Jacobs owl pendant ($78)  hangs from a chain necklace cleverly held with safety pins — it’s long (31″) and adds just the right amount of oomph. If you’re a scarf gal, check out the pleated solid scarves ($34) in a variety of colors from RachelRoy.com — they’re having a friends and family 30% off sale that goes through 9/20.

The Francesco Biasia brown croc leather tote adds the right amount of polish to your outfit and we have one on sale in our own shop!

Last but not least, add some color with these patent croc wine heels from Nine West for $70.

  1. Love this look – thanks for the post. This post brings a question to mind. I have seen ladies layer long-sleeved shirts under dresses – it looks great. But, I’m having trouble recreating the look. Do you have any guidelines? I’ve used very fitted shirts/blouses underneath, but it still doesn’t work for me. It’s something about the necklines that always seem to give me trouble. Would this dress be a potential candidate for layering? Or, is it too fitted in the bodice?

  2. For layering, I’d use necklines such as a scoop neck or a turtleneck. You could possibly layer a thin jersey turtleneck underneath this dress — it could be too snug but it’s worth a shot!

  3. What kind/color of tights could I wear with it?
