what to wear – purple trend

thecolorpurplePurple is the must-have color this fall! It is everywhere so I have included several stylish clothes and accessories along with some color tips.

Fortunately, purple is a color that everyone can wear. If your color temperature is cool or warm, you can take advantage of the purple trend this Fall.  Purple is a regal and savvy color that can be worn as a statement or as an accent piece. You just need to make sure that you wear the purple that flatters your dominant color temperature.  A grapey and darker purple is composed of  blue violets that would compliment  someone with a cool color temperature. A lighter, richer purple such as amethyst is composed of red violets that would flatter a person with a warm color temperature.

Color Harmony is important when you mix and match purples. You can wear a color next to violet on the color wheel (red or blue) for an analogous harmony or go to violet’s complement which is yellow (or gold!)

If you are not sure on how to determine your color temperature, please contact one of our stylists in the Find-A-Stylist section for a consultation. Or schedule a Style Workshop for you and your friends to learn more about color.

  1. Teresa- Love, love, love the color purple (yea, the broadway show too!) It’s interesting that I don’t have much purple in my wardrobe. I think it’s for the very reason you don’t hear much on how to wear it. This article was just what I needed to start my “fall” into purple off right!! Thanks!

  2. purple has always been my color of choice since i have gone with the red burgundy hair color i now have My only complaint is finding it in cosmetics especially in eyeliners and eye shadows Why can’t this be available all the time like black liner and green /blue shadows is The purple color line for eyes is much more flattering to us brown eyed gals

    • You should really try the Bobbi Brown Long Wear Gel Eyeliner in violet ink. It stays on all day!
I have been wearing the violet ink for a long time so I am happy that Bobbi Brown keeps this color in stock. I also have brown eyes and this color compliments them.

I loved this article on the color purple. I give it 5 Stars. I’ve always strayed away from fahion items in the color purple because it has always seemed to be too bold or even “tacky”. But I realize after reading this article that it is very fashionable and classy. I look forward to dressing up my wardrobe including my accessories, jewelry and even make-up.

  4. I think we got cheated by the fashion industry. Wasn’t purple the it color from last fall? Still, it’s a great color. No harm done.

  5. Great color for fall, less conservative then dark blue or black. Hum must be lovely with gold.

  6. Went shopping yesterday and purple was everywhere. It really is the new black for this Fall

  7. I started buying purple clothes in Chile last April (our Spring and Chile’s Fall season). I have a jacket and coat and I get so many compliments! This couple couldn’t believe how beautiful the purple looked on me. Since then I have purchased a purple purse.

  8. Oh, yes. I LOVE purple – especially deep, dark, rich purple. I would totally wear that trench coat…and those purple peep toe heels would be perfect with designer jeans, don’t you think?

  9. Super elegant Stephanie! I’m thinking a dark straight leg denim. What would you wear for a top?
