what to wear: job interview
If you’re a rectangle or hourglass and looking for the perfect interview suit that you can break up and wear multiple ways — and travel in without worrying that it’ll wrinkle — then BCBG has a great and affordable contender for you to consider.
The black pencil skirt works perfectly paired with the one-button jacket or separately with a simple blouse or button-down that is belted at the waist, or as shown with a more casual yet still structured, cardigan.
The jacket is perfect for work and play. I like the idea of wearing some sleek gray jeans and a flowy tank underneath the waist defining jacket.
But when it comes to interview time, you’ll want to pull it together for a polished look. Here are two different ideas for inspiration.
Happy job hunting!
Outfit 1: Professional Interview
- BGBC black pencil skirt, $118
- BCBG one-button jacket, $198
- Elie Tahari red print sleeveless silk shell, $
Stuart Weitzman Poco kitten heels in black suede, $275. Kitten heels are a bit hit for spring and there are lots of options out there. - Violet leather work tote, $98. A simple yet structured tote that fits your laptop.
Outfit 2: Business Casual Interview
- BGBC black pencil skirt, $118
- BCBG ruffled cardigan, $298
- Elie Tahari black silk shell, $168. Not shown, but perfect for underneath the cardigan and then alone with the skirt for an evening out. It has ruching at the waist and flares out at the hip – quite sexy!
- Statement necklace, $58
- Sofft sandals, $115. Check the dress code first before wearing to an interview but the sandal can be great for a quick evening look.

Nice to see you back, Teresa!
I really like the suggestions-but I would skip the sandals-as you say, could be risky. You could opt for a stylish and classic boot for this time of year.
Great colors, too.
Love the post. The link to the red print shell is not working or it maybe sold out. Do yo have an alternative?
Thank you so much for the great post.
WOW now i know what to wear tomorrow at work i love it
Hi Teresa- Great inspiration here. Have been looking for ideas on what to wear to interview. I’m in the creative side of advertising and graphic design. Do you have suggestions for that type of job? Thank you.
