what to wear: anniversary dinner
If your wedding or first-date anniversary is coming up, congratulations! Whether you’ve been together one year, 10 years or over 40, going out for a romantic dinner is the typical way we find ourselves celebrating.
I always like to pull out my special black dress and update it with the season’s ‘it’ accessories. And other times, when it’s a significant anniversary, it’s fun to splurge on a special new dress. Here, I show both solutions to help you as you plan your evening out. It also works for any of the upcoming holiday parties and events you may be attending soon!
Accessories: Work the LBD
Wearing a statement piece is crucial to play up your black dress. Try a necklace that contains semi-precious stones that pull out your eye color or that enhance your skin. I am over-the-moon with the delicate yet chunky nature of Nancy Dobbs Owens jewelry like this Confetti necklace. All versions are a combination of mixed metals and have beautiful drops of jade, biwa pearls or chrysophase to adorn yourself in. For your handbag, try a wristlet. It’s just like a clutch but the strap that you wrap around your wrist ensures you don’t lose your bag. Try a funky leaf color like this one by Hobo. You definitely want to wear a fun and sexy shoe and these appropriately named Salsa shoes by Max Studio
are perfect for a night out.
A New Dress
If you already have a black dress and don’t want to wear it this time around, add a beautiful color to your collection of evening wear. This one by Nanette Lepore looks great on rectangle body types because it has an inset waist. The details are understated and feminine. The organic leaf gold cuff pulls it together perfectly – who can resist that it’s a $40 Target find? Wear a harmonious shoe color such as mustard yellow, green/bronze, red or green. This style is by Martinez Valero (the Pinkie) and is in a great green/bronze color that can work with various colors of dresses – even your black dress!
