You have a spring luncheon that you’re going to be attending this weekend that is more on the casual side.  What to wear?

A yellow Catherine Malandrino flutter sleeve knit is the perfect spring top. The V-neck pointelle top features solid banding throughout and a rolled edge at the cuffs. It works really well for rectangles or elongated hourglasses.

There are so many parties this season and when it comes to dress-up affairs for work or cocktail-type soiree’s, you want to look festive and hot. Here are two dresses for two different types of parties that can use the same accessories shown in the middle.

We’ve all been there.

The vacation that we’ve been looking forward to is finally here – and we don’t know what clothes to bring!  It’s not that we can’t figure out what to wear (based on the survey at left, most of you find it’s the easiest) but it’s that we can’t figure out what NOT to wear.  How many of you have taken a suitcase (or two!) full of clothes and ended up only wearing half of what you brought?

One of the biggest problems women face when preparing for a trip is making good outfit decisions – this leads to overpacking, something that almost 70 percent of us admit to!  Our editing skills perhaps need some polishing so whether you are heading to the Disneyland Resort with the kids or going to business conference at a top resort, this week Wardrobe 911 will feature travel tips and style solutions for a variety of destinations. Here’s today’s installment:

Destination

You’re heading out for dinner right after work and you don’t really have time to change.

Whew!  Who knew being stylish could be so easy.

Not that work should drive you to drink but it has been known to do that from time to time.  Figuring out what to wear to work when you know you’re going out after can certainly do it.

Pairing a cool, structured jacket with a great jersey top (this one by Chaiken comes in a multitude of colors and should be on every gal’s shopping list) to work allows you to dress up or down your outfit without being over-dressed for work. (Yes, that is a problem for some!)

I remember when all the big Silicon Valley companies here went “business casual.”  One company held a fashion show to show what was appropriate and what wasn’t.  Essentially, they showed men and women in their navy blue suits taking off their jacket to show that it went from professional dress to business casual.  I giggled throughout the whole thing.  It certainly caused confusion and most people just ignored the advice and either kept wearing their suits (because it was easy!) or ventured out into Gap Khaki-land.

While I thought the fashion show was silly (granted, there really were no great selections in stores) it made a point about how jackets create a professional presence.  So, when you think about how you can address the question of what to wear when you go for drinks after work, simply take your jacket off.

To celebrate, let’s go salsa dancing!

The best part about salsa is wearing great chandelier earrings and a flirty, fun dress with a full skirt so they swoosh when you move.  Heels are a must and I love these red t-straps.  If you are worried about the color combo, don’t be.

The red-orange shoe is harmonious with the red-purple dress because all triadic colors are present:  Red + (Red + Yellow) and (Blue + Red) + Red.  A quick, yet important color lesson for you all today.

I love Halloween.  I’ve been a fairy princess, a Roaring 20’s flapper, Ginger from Gilligan’s Island (I was 23), FBI Agent Scully, even an “Angel” Investor (hey, it was 1999.)  Halloween’s a time when we can all dress up

and be someone that we’re not or just relish in some twisted idea of what we think is clever.  I once saw a guy dressed in a full, bright-blue leotard with a rubber chicken hanging around his neck with a rope.  He was Chicken Cordon Bleu.

Here’s one of my favorites because I think every girl should have a Flapper Costume in their Halloween box.  Just grab some long black gloves, a long pearl necklace and your favorite black Mary Janes.  If your hair isn’t short, get the flapper wig — it’s $17.
