steaming versus ironing your clothes
If you hate to iron, then you will love what I have to say about steaming. Having owned a women’s clothing boutique, I have come to learn that steaming your clothes is the best thing for them — and it’s easier on you.
When I would receive boxes of clothing in, it was so much easier to hang them on a nice hanger and run the steamer over them versus setting up the ironing board and trying to get every crease. Granted, there are some fabrics such as rayon and acetate that you can not steam — please read the fabric care instructions carefully on everything — but all you have to do is hold the nozzle up against the fabric and the wrinkles fall out.
You can even steam silk if you follow a few precautions: Get some clean, nude hosiery (any other color transfers to your clothing!) and put it over the steam nozzle — this will act as a protectant against getting too much moisture on your silks. Hold the nozzle about 3 to 5 inches away from your silk garment to get the wrinkles out.
I found the best steamers come from Jiffy Steamer — I use the J-2000 for piles of clothes and the eSteam for quick jobs. You’ll also receive free shipping when you use code IMAGE160 at checkout.
And if you’re thinking of adding some lavender water to your steamer so everything smells nice, please learn from my error — it’ll ruin your steamer. Go figure.
