wardrobe plan: spring shoe essentials
Adding more trendier items to your shoe wardrobe can update your style significantly. If you need some direction as to what essentials you should add, here are Wardrobe 911’s picks for bringing style to your wardrobe this season. All shoes listed are shown from left to right.

Light Neutral Heels
With all the lighter colors worn in the springtime, a pair of heels that match most anything is the way to go. These funky new shapes for Spring will update your wardrobe and they’re sassy enough to wear with skirts or the boyfriend jean.
- Coclico Nectar
- Budget alternative: Nine West Lawrence
– sizes are limited so hurry.
- Coclico light gray keyhole sandal
– not to mention that these are probably some of the sexiest shoes we’ve seen!
Cutout Bootie Sandal
Although you may or may not like these, I find that they provide a modern edge to an outfit and work beautifully transitioning from winter to spring styles.
- Givenchy Sandal Bootie
(also found at ShopBop.com
)
- Ash Booties
- Belle by Sigerson Morrison Open Toe Heel
Wedges
These look great with pants, skirts, maxis and add a casual flair to anything you’re wearing. For the most part, they tend to be easy to walk in but there are quite a few styles that are sky-high so wear at your own risk!
- KORS Michael Kors metallic espadrilles
have a 4″ heel that feels like 2.75″ – perfect for petites looking for comfort.
- The coveted 2.5″ heel is a hard one to find. Here’s one by Cynthia Vincent
that is absolutely perfect.
- Gentle Souls Day Starr
which aren’t really wedges but still have that edge – definitely non-marmy.
T-Straps
T-strap sandals add a casual elegance to any warm-weather outfit. If you feel like anything between your toes will drive you crazy, don’t turn your head on this just yet. I was happily surprised to find that many shoe designers have addressed the comfort factor so that you won’t even feel them on!
- Budget and heel friendly: Cocobelle Para Ti Snakeskin
- Cocobelle flat sandals
looks great with jeans or a skirt or maxi dress.
- For sizes 11-13: Dolce Vita Drake Sandal
Colorful Shoes
There are so many bright colors for Spring that sometimes it’s best to wear them on your feet. Get dressed in head-to-toe neutrals and then add these for personality.

Can these be worn by older (45 up) women without embarrassing our teenage daughters? Like when our own mother’s wore leather fringe jackets or Twiggy dresses in 1969?
YES! The only ones I would caution you on are the black styles shown of the cutout bootie and a over-the-top platform wedge. The cutout bootie can come across as too much if not worn well but it can create an ultra sleek + sophisticated look which is definitely more appropriate for the experienced woman.
I’ll be using these shoes in upcoming posts to show you how to wear so stay tuned!
Yay, shoes glorious shoes. I’m not buying anything new until I buy a new pair of shoes. I am a wedge addict desiring the height but not the steep last of a high heel.
The second two wedges are very buyable! Thanks so much.
And you are right, the gray keyhole sandal is uber alluring, the lines simulate a shoulder skimming halter top!
As a mom I always have trouble in the spring finding a comfortable and chic shoe. Is there a nice shoe out there I could wear with my Jeans when transitioning from the cold to somewhat warmer in the Chicago area? I always need to wear socks. I would love to find something cute.
I’m so excited to find a perfect pair of strappy flats, but I’m waiting for the weather to warm up!
Me too Natalie! One thing I love about spring shoes is the magnificent pedis that go with showing your toes.
Nicole – I hear you sister! My feet always run cold. Socks with flats works but I always do black with black to keep it low-key. That or booties! What do you other ‘cold feet’ gals do to keep your toes warm?
I love the selection for larger sizes, the Dolce Vita Drake Sandal. I had already eyed that on BFT. Do you have a suggestion on what you would wear that sandal with, though? I’m just clueless as to what you would put with something that was that heavy and black around the ankle. Thanks!
Annie – you definitely want to show off your legs in this one. I would pair it with a skirt or shorts so that you can see all the ankle detail. Even a rolled up boyfriend jean would add additional sass to it.
