how to wear: buttoned-down shirts

One of my favorite staples are buttoned-down shirts for its versatility and timeless quality.  Buttoned-down shirts can be worn in a traditional sense, like in the outfit on the far left.

Perfect for an important meeting, pair it with a classic two-piece blazer and pant suit, pumps, and finished off with a great bag.

If your office has a business casual dress code, then try wearing your buttoned-down shirt with your favorite pair of jeans.  Throw on some Missoni skimmers (at Zappos) for color and an ultra soft cashmere sweater to add some polish to the casualness of the jean.

For shopping on the weekends, buttoned-down shirts can also be worn with a fun printed skirt and low heels like this Mary Jane by Delman which is sold at Zappos.com.

As you can tell from my name, I’m a casual kind of woman, and I love your blog. But I had to comment on the ‘business casual” advice! Business casual is the most misunderstood level of dress, and an excuse for some of the most ridiculous work outfits I’ve seen (Think pink capri pants, white tee shirt and high heel flip flops in a corporate bank office! Yes, I’ve seen that)Jeans are not universally business casual. The cardigan with the blouse and suit pants are business casual. I do think this issue is “coast sensitive” with the East coast being more buttoned up.

  2. I definitely agree with you that the East Coast is more formal in the corporate arena when it comes to business casual. I should have stated if you are an architect on a jobsite or a writer, photographer or professional that works from home, then business casual is more suitable. Seems like a new nomenclature needs to be devised for all our different work lives and styles! :)
