how to: blow-dry your hair

If you’ve ever tried to recreate the blow-out your hairstylist did for you at the salon without much success, you are not alone.  I have met countless women who don’t know which tools to use, let alone how to use them.  The first thing I do with my clients who need help in this area?  Take a trip to the salon for an exclusive lesson on how to blow-dry their hair from a professional hairstylist.  Then we hit the beauty supply store for the recommended products.

nowyouknowhowHowever, if you want to save a bit of money and time going to the salon for a lesson, there is another option.   There’s this brilliant DVD, “Now You Know How…To Blow-Dry Your Hair” done by Kimberly Clo, hair designer extraordinaire.  Kimberly is warm, personable and so much fun to talk to.  We recently met and she sent me her DVD in December and I finally got around to watching it last night.  Wow. Super professional, high quality and I even picked up some great tips.

Kimberly provides you step-by-step guidance on the right techniques for blow drying your hair for a smooth + straight look, for creating movement, and she even blow-drys her own hair so you can see exactly how to do it.  I ended up learning quite a bit but the biggest realization was that I was doing my back the wrong way — and I thought I knew how.  Now I know.

  1. Next time you are in the salon and do something new/different with your hair, make sure you plan enough time at the end of the appointment with your stylist to have them show you how to do it yourself, specifically for your hair. My stylist gives me the brush and hairdryer and supervises me, giving pointers where needed. It’s a huge help, and custom-tailored to my cut, and I didn’t need to make a separate trip to the salon.

I actually ordered this video and love it! I have tried to blow dry my own “naturally” curly hair and everytime it comes out looking frizzy. I was able to watch her do it on her own hair and that helped me figure out how to section and how long to dry. I love it!
