are you tired of the skinny jean?

skinny-jeansOver the weekend I had an interesting conversation with my husband as we were walking down the street in our neighborhood.  We had passed several women who were wearing skinny jeans and he turned to me and said, “You know, I can’t wait until the skinny jean trend is over.  I don’t think they’re very flattering on women.”

“Really??” I mused, “I wear skinny jeans and I think they look good.”

“You wear yours with boots,” he retorted. “I just hate it when they are all tight around the calf and ankle. It looks so disproportionate and then they pair them with silly flat shoes.  They look like elves.  It’s even worse on guys.”

Hmmm… maybe he’s on to something here. Most people don’t know how to wear them for their body type or what shoe to pair them with that would be most flattering.  I wear mine with flats from time to time but I always pair it with a tunic sweater to drape the hips and to balance the skinny leg. I think most hourglass would do well with this look along with doing the boot.  But, is it over?  Is it time to say goodbye to the skinny jean?  What are your thoughts?

And, which shoe do you like most with the skinny jean?  And which one do you just hate?

  1. Even if someone is in top physical condition, somehow the skinny jean just looks like tights. I have never been a fan of them. Women mistakenly want to flaunt all of the hard work of getting fit, or lucky ones who are just skinny. A friend of mine from Costa Rica summed it up:
    “They look “wormy”.

  2. I have resisted the skinny jean trend for so long, but this winter I broke down and purchased a pair to wear with boots. They are just easier to tuck into boots. This is the only time I wear them. Otherwise, I always go for the tried and true boot-cut jeans!

  3. They do so frequently look like leggings. Honestly, I don’t like them, especially with ballet flats.

    How unfashion of me!

  4. I’m looking forward to the trend ending. Many people are wearing them that shouldn’t be. I haven’t jumped on the bandwagon because I have thick thighs, and I think they look bad on everyone who doesn’t have tiny legs and a good butt.

  5. With flats, you look about 15 years old. That’s what they wear.If you’re not especially thin or evenly proportioned, you look dumpy. If you are petite, you can get away with flats and look cute. If you want to look grown up, wear pumps or especially knee high or OTK boots with heels. This is for any age.Even heavier or curvy built women look thinner.

  6. Been there, done that.

Who does the skinny jeans trend actually look good on?

  7. they look good on tall skinny folks- not most of us out here. what ever happened to looking womanly??

  8. I like them with boots and that’s about it. I actually wear the straight-leg style and consider it skinny. I generally prefer the boot cut on most women, but if you wear a top with volume and tuck the jeans in the boots, it can be a cute look. I don’t think it’s going anywhere any time soon.

  9. Yes, I agree musings. It doesn’t look like it’s leaving but it’s so good to hear all you realize what is right and what isn’t for YOU. So proud I can’t even tell you. ;)

@Lindy – the worm comment is my favorite of the year!
