how to wear: the wrap of all wraps
In 2003, DKNY launched the mother of all sweater wraps: the Cozy. I’ve had tons of fun introducing my clients to this piece because there were 20 ways to wear it that made it super multi-functional. Plus, it came with a little instruction booklet and the colors were yummy.
Apparently women across the country fell in love with it too and DKNY has re-cut it into more colors perfect for winter. This is such a fun piece and it transforms into so many great variations that you can be guaranteed there is a look for every body type and event. You can wear it as a top, a sweater or a shawl.
I did a bit of sleuthing and below are the colors available online. The photo on the left is from Bloomingdale’s catalog which shows 4 of 20 ways to wear it — the online sites show a couple more obvious ways.
- In green at at ShopBop.com
.
- In ivory, black, green and red at Bloomingdale’s.com (Red, Black, Yellow, Blue and Fuschia are in-stores)
- In black, red and purple at Nordstrom.com

I’ve been curious about this garment. It does seem clever, but it also looks like A Whole Lot of Fabric. I’m afraid I’d end up looking swaddled. Or smothered. Or — worst of all — like Maude.

It certainly is a lot of fabric! Especially if you wear it down and open. (All petites: just say NO to that way of wearing it.) The fabric is a nice lightweight knit and fortunately it doesn’t overwhelm. My favorite way to put it together is featured in the top-right photo — it isn’t bulky at all and looks great on — definitely non-Maude-ish!

i have the BCBG cardi wrap that is similiar i think to the DKNY. i had my eye on it for a couple of seasons and then finally got it this fall. i do wear it and enjoy it. but i saw a lady at the mall yesterday with the same cardi wrap on. that is never a good feeling.

I just bought a knock-off, because I am not about to spend $200 on a wrap, but I’m curious, how in the world do you tie the version in the top right picture? It would look fantastic, but I have no idea how to do it. Any tips? Thanks!

Hey Debbie –
I am going to try and walk you through it - let me know if it works! With the wrap on, take the two front edges in each hand and bring them together. Then, take a bangle bracelet (or ponytail holder) and slip it over both the front ends. Push the bracelet up the fabric (or pull the ends, whichever works for you) until the bracelet lies against your waist. The two front ends should be long enough at this point to pull around you body and tie in the back. You will need to do a little futzing and adjusting with the fabric in front and you’re done!
