what to wear: pumpkin carving
Whether you have little ones in the home or not, Halloween provides a great excuse to invite a few friends over and do a bit of pumpkin carving. Since it’s a rather casual (and messy!) affair, you don’t want to wear anything that gets in the way of your artistic moment. A drapey bell sleeve or bow-tie top will just wreak havoc.
Here’s a fun outfit with just a splash of orange to keep it festive. Since it’s fall, some casual jeans with a bit of a bootcut leg is flattering on all body types. This particular style has a higher rise. Depending on your proportions and comfort, get the rise length that’s best for you.
If you run a bit cold (and are allergic to wool!) this yummy heathered mocha cardigan adds the appropriate amount of polish to a casual outfit.
Throw on your favorite comfy sneakers and get creative with the pumpkins!

Hi Teresa,
I love the outfit! I was wondering if a petite woman can wear the long cardigan? I love alot of the looks right now with long cardigans, but can petite women wear them?

Hi Cristina — it depends. Some petites have long torsos and some have short waists and long legs. Others are pretty proportioned. If you are well proportioned in your length or have a short waist and long legs, then you can wear the longer cardis. Just make sure they don’t go past your thumbs — this one is a tad too long.

Ooooh. I have those shoes and jeans. I want to complete that look and host a pumpkin carving now.

I feel a little silly, but how do you feel about wearing Converse after 40?

Hi Nicole!
I think Converse after 40 is fine! It’s how you wear them. If your outfit is stylish and urban then it can look hip. And yes, Rectangles can wear wider necklines such as this one and the boatnecks. The line of the neck draws the eyes up and away from the tummy.

Really enjoy your site and your great suggestions! When I go to the link for the JCrew tee it only has one color available. That tends to happen often…so that the color in the posting isn’t available.
When you post it, is it available in the stores in your color choice and not online?

Hi Melissa,
I went today to the JCrew store. The orange tee is on sale for 11.99. The purple and a yellow are on sale too.
