what to wear: going out - 50+
Whether you are going out with some dear friends or spending the evening out with your sweetie, here’s an outfit that will show you’re hip beyond your years.
Denim pencil skirts can be stylish and appropriate as long as they hit at the knee and come in a darker wash. You don’t want a lot of whiskering on the denim.
Wear your favorite neutral jersey top and pull it together with two stand-out pieces: a structured yet yummy leather jacket and a bold statement necklace. This leather jacket is cropped and looks best on women with longer torsos (it shortens you a bit and provides some proportion.)
Carry a bright green snakeskin clutch and some sandals that match your jacket. We show these Tory Burch platforms
but if you’re not into wearing heels because you want to avoid hurting yourself, try a stylish t-strap sandal.

Hi Teresa, I love this blog! I am an hourglass, but I have a short waist. What type of jacket or outer layer would work best on someone like me for the style example used?
Thanks.

Hi Steph –
you definitely want a jacket that nips in the waist and doesn’t have any flap pockets on the bottom (that would highlight your hips more than others because you are short waisted)

What do you wear for a bra (or something else) to cover one sufficiently with this top?

Hi Teresa,
This looks like an outfit more for fall. I love the outfit but never know what to do about my legs. I am very fair skinned so my legs get to pale to wear bear. What do you where on your legs with shoes like this in the fall?

hi cj — you’ll want to wear a nude colored bra. any style bra works under this upscale tank top — it provides full bra strap coverage.
susan - this is definitely a summer evening outfit with a twist. the evenings can sometimes get a tad chilly so a short-sleeve jacket or cardigan is perfect. the sandal is a bare leg shoe so you can show off your pedicure.
if you feel too pale, try one of the moisturizers that have a bit of bronzer in them — magic!
