what to wear: at a child’s sporting event
Your child (or favorite youngster!) is the star player in her sports league and you are attending the last game of the season. You’ve planned a stellar post-game pizza party celebration and don’t know what outfit will work on the field, as well as off the field.
Here’s a fun, stylish and practical outfit that works fabulously for small-busted gals. This fleece jacket by Mike & Chris has just the right amount of detailing that draws the eye up. It’s a complete score - it’s silhouette flattering, it’s machine washable, and it will keep you warm during the changing spring weather. What more could you ask for!
Layer it over a tee and pair it with a dark boot cut or flare leg denim which is universally flattering. Seven jeans cut for a straight hip so if you are more curvy below, try AG or Joe’s. Wear a comfy mary jane like this one by Nike and you’ll be prepared to cheer for the team in style.
If you’re the mom, don’t forget to pack some healthy snacks and extra clothes for your child in your Le Sportsac tote.

Hi Theresa,
I soooo need outfits like this! My issue is that I’m an hourglass with a particularly large booty and large theighs (though I have wide enough shoulders, a big enough bust, and a small enough waist apparently to qualify as an hourglass. I’m also 5′1″ and have disproportionally shorter legs. My issue with these types of outfits is that I’m uncomfortable with both how I look in flat shoes and how I look with any kind of heel in such a casual outfit. Any suggestions? Are there any shoes that bridge the gap and don’t look cheesy? Thanks!

I have a question. Are there any kind of socks that are appropriate to wear with this type of mary-jane style sneaker? I’m fine with no socks when it’s warm, but on those 30 degree soccer mornings I really need something to keep my toes warm. How can my feet look cute in those shoes and stay warm? I never know what type of sock is appropriate with a fashion type sneaker. Any suggestions?

I’d like to know the same thing, about socks with the sporty mary-janes. The shoes are cute, but my feet (and hands) are always cold. I need to be able to wear socks if it’s under 75*!

you could wear the hidden sock liners but they don’t really keep your feet warm or stay on very well. Here’s the thing: most women run cold and our feet need to be warm so you kind of HAVE to wear socks when it’s freezing out. I don’t beleive in suffering for fashion.
Having said that, pick a flattering neutral colored sock that harmonizes. With this particular shoe, a gray/charcoal sock would be adorable. NEVER wear white with a mary jane though. That is for those of us who are 8 years old and under.
