how to wear: pencil skirts
Pencil skirts are an item that should grace every woman’s closet. With the infinite number of ways you can wear this classic piece, it is sure to last you through the years and outlast the constantly changing trends.
Whether you dress it up, or go for something more casual, pencil skirts can be very figure flattering if worn and accessorized properly—especially for rectangles and inverted triangles. (Although we do know some hourglass + triangles that can rock it — just make sure the hem at the skirt doesn’t go in.)

From left to right we have an outfit for evening, an outfit for work and and outfit for weekend or a casual night out with friends.
Evening Outfit:
For painting the town red, er green, try wearing your pencil skirt with this fabulous Robert Rodriguez blouse. The classic shape and style of the pencil skirt lends itself nicely to louder pieces without being too over the top. Since this silk green blouse already has a very busy neckline, accessorize your look with some great earrings. Finish off your outfit with a killer pair of shoes and coordinating clutch.
Office Outfit:
For a casual day at the office, pair a pencil skirt with the latest fitted top from Theory (at shopbop.com.) It’s a repeat of the Aniston from last season but with cute breast pockets. Pull the look together with a patent leather belt. If you work in a stylish office, you can certainly get away with these red + black heels by BCBGirls, otherwise try a simple black d’orsay pump. The bag is by Dior and part of the gaucho collection.
Casual Outfit:
For a more day-friendly look, wear your pencil skirt with a fun, colorful blouse and a complementing low heel
. Add a great bangle, and you’re set to conquer the world in style!
Keeping proportion is important, so make sure not to pair your pencil skirt with tops that are too long or voluminous to help balance the tapered shape of your skirt. Always remember to have fun, and play with color in your tops and different accessories!

Great outfits! I especially love the middle one since I already have red pumps that I adore!
